sat nav holder for car & bike 2010-06-17 Bought to fit both bike and car does exactly that great idea
sat nav bag just the job 2010-05-25 I purchased this accessory to be able to use the sat nav on my european motorcycle trip this summer, Excellent, Only thing the waterproff cover screen is hard to press through onto the sat nav touch screen at times. Otherwise - just the job
Well designed and robust 2010-05-16 Givi is a brand name that is trusted for its design nous, a company that provides things to put your stuff in and attach it to your bike with a little design flair thrown in. As such it takes the mundane and gives it a little twist. This is no exception, a well thought out, easy to use option that potentially saves you hundreds of pounds. I have an old bike sat nav (Tom Tom rider 1) that fits on a handlebar mounted ball joint (RAM mount). Its very good but long in the tooth and it is now thoroughly cranky. I also have a tomtom 1 for the car that does a good job too and isn't nearly as cranky (and cost a quarter what the rider did). Not being in the position to splash out on a new sat nav I looked around for some alternatives. This was the one I landed on of three I gave serious consideration to, the others being the So Easy Rider V3 and the Aqua Box 6 (Hama also do a system available through Amazon). Aqua Box is a rigid box construction that utilises a RAM mount, the S850 and the So Easy Rider V3 are soft cover handle bar mounted systems. I rejected the Aqua Box because of the cable access, which could make things a bit fiddly when you want to dismount the unit and lock it away or carry it with you - cable removal involves undoing 4 screws on the bottom of the unit. Also if you want to use the sat nav for walking around an unfamiliar town it doesn't appear to come with the extras that the the other two do, e.g. a shoulder strap (though nothing screams tourist quite as loudly, which might not be a good thing). Both soft cases could be mounted on the forearm but I cannot help but thinking that would look slightly sci-fi with leathers on! The choice boiled down to the So Easy Rider V3 and S850. The accessory options for the Easy Rider V3 are wider, for the Givi, non existent. There is a pocket on the back of each into which you could put a booster battery (a So Easy Rider option about £45) or store a 12v outlet cord, earphones etc. The best So Easy Rider accessory for me, though, is definitely the Air Tube which gives you the option of utilising your sat nav's speaker outlet if you do not have bluetooth or an external phones jack built in. I haven't tried this yet but I am certainly considering it as voice command has to be a better option than taking your eyes off the road. So why the S850 over the So Easy Rider V3? Well it comes down to the quality of the zips and thus the waterproofing. Both have rain cowls (though my bike has fairing and screen so handle bar mounted it is probably ok without the additional protection - has been so far anyway - but I preferred the zip arrangement to the grommet and zip of the V3. Very small difference and I am sure I would have been happy with either. The Aqua Box, Hama and S850 are available here on Amazon, the So Easy Rider V3 is a GPSMOTO product.
Givi SatNav case. 2010-05-14 Well made, compact, but somewhat fiddly to sort out the velcro straps and fixings, but it all makes sense once you sort it out. An ideal way to extend the use of your satnav, carry a phone and loose change, in a handy way ready for use. The great thing about this product is that it works on virtually any bike, ATV, et al, and there is no need for specific fittings, and an expensive waterproof satnav for bike use only. As for the straps...they can be cut to length to stop getting tangled in the other velcro patches. Comes with a rain cover, which may as well be used every time, otherwise you have to find a way of storing it, just in case...! Access to the pockets is still available with the cover in place, which shows how much thought has been put into the design. There is also access for a battery cable at the base...a good point. Not sure about working the satnav through 2 layers of clear plastic, but saving lots of cash by using a car satnav, already owned, outweighs out any such concerns.
Great Idea, but... 2010-04-07 Great quality for value. Perfect if U want to save couple hundreds on buying motorcycle sat nav... 2 problems: - bit big, could be more compact, even in option, if U don't really need extra pocket for mobile etc... - plastic cover for touch screen is too tick (I would say) - it does work great, but if U need to press something in a corner of screen, it can drive U mad... Except those great idea, product exacly as in description, technicly any sat nav fits, I'm very happy. It's a good idea to buy it together with some socket extention (like: Sat Nav Kit for Motorcycle Motorbike) so U can switch Your car sat nav to Your bike's battery and enjoy long hours riding with no trouble. Now have no problem to find some small bra shop in central London :)
