THE FIRST FWD ESCORT OF THE 1980'S. 2008-09-29 The now classic and scarce MK3 Escort launched back in 1981 was the first modern Front Wheel drive saloon of it's type. Previously came the ground breaking Fiesta in 1978 which moved Ford into the late 70's. The Mk3 Escort was Ford's first true 'World' car being produced from America to Asia in differing forms. It's Bustle back shape was designed to not only cut drag baut to stop dirt and dust forming on the rear window. It sold in it's millions and got a major re-design in 1986 with a new interior and exterior panels. The model is really well made and has all three doors opening along with movable seats. The paintwork is first rate as is the overall detail down to the steel wheels and tyres. The seats though are of the wrong colour for a GL version and there 'Sticky' to the touch ?. I would like to see Sunstar produce the RS1600 and 1800 versions at some stage. Also coming is the Escort Cabrio also in the GL guise and not the XR3 for some reason. | ||
